Luke Cage just got canceled by Netflix, shocking fans of the Marvel series. It was the second Marvel show to get canceled within the past week. Earlier, Netflix decided to pull the plug on Iron Fist, and now a second member of The Defenders no longer has a show.
Two seasons of Luke Cage were made by Netflix and Marvel. The lead character, played by Mike Colter, also appeared on Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and The Defenders.
It’s possible that Cage shows up again on one of the other Marvel properties, but he won’t be on a stand-alone show for Netflix any longer. It’s also possible that the show gets picked up in another format, especially with possible tie-ins to the movies.

Why was Luke Cage canceled?
A lot of fans also want to know why Luke Cage got canceled. That answer hasn’t been specifically revealed, although Netflix did state that it “wasn’t feasible” at this time.
That could mean it was too expensive, that it didn’t fit with what Netflix wanted to do, or simply that it didn’t make sense to try to film Season 3 with Disney looking to let its licensing deals with Marvel expire.
“Unfortunately, ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’ will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

No Luke Cage movie
There have been rumors that a Luke Cage movie could be in the works, but if there were plans, they have likely been tabled for now. In addition to the rumors about this property, there are suggestions on social media that Jessica Jones could get canceled as well. It’s another show that already has two seasons, but it has been unclear if the streaming service wants a Season 3.
The most successful Marvel properties for Netflix have been Daredevil and The Punisher. Daredevil Season 3, which received a lot of promotion, was just released on October 19. Fans can go view all three seasons of Daredevil, as well as the first two seasons of Luke Cage, which are all available now.
Luke Cage episodes can still be viewed on the Netflix service.
