General Hospital fans have cause to rejoice, a fan fave will be back on screen before summer’s out!

Today Leslie Charleson tweeted that she begins taping again as Monica Quartermaine on July 23. Factoring in the GH production schedule it’s anticipated that Charleson is back on screen, and in our living rooms, by the middle of August.

Charleson’s fans are no doubt relieved to hear that the soap legend who’s played the long-suffering yet indomitable Monica for over four decades is doing well and ready to return to the set.

On April 17, Charleson tripped and injured herself while preparing to walk her dog, Riley Rose. Leslie posted a couple of updates for her fans via Twitter during her recovery but she made it clear that she was always coming back.

Patty McCormack began taping scenes as Monica at the beginning of May, and quickly earned fans’ respect. She had to hit the ground running as Monica is involved in two front burner plots: Nelle’s (Chloe Lanier) deception and Kiki’s (Hayley Erin) sexual harassment complaint.

Leslie Charleson joined the General Hospital cast in 1977 when she was cast as Monica Quartermaine, replacing Patsy Rahn. Though Charleson’s role was dropped down to recurring in 2010, she’s still remained on the GH cast longer than anyone else.

General Hospital airs on weekdays on ABC.
