The Reagan family dinners will continue another year.
This makes another fantastic year for the long-running hit that keeps managing to stay around.
Blue Bloods returns for Season 13
Since its debut in 2010, Blue Bloods has regularly dominated the Friday night landscape.
Interestingly, CBS attempted to air the show for a few weeks on Wednesdays in its first season. However, they soon switched it back to Fridays, where it’s since been one of the most popular shows on television.
The series regularly is the highest-rated network show on Friday nights and still maintains a loyal audience. However, there were concerns over it getting renewed due to the high contracts of the cast, especially star Tom Selleck.
The series did celebrate its milestone 250th episode earlier this season, and the cast has been hoping for another year.
It’s now confirmed that will happen, as CBS President Kelly Kahl made the announcement of Season 13.
“America’s favorite first family of law enforcement is back for season 13. The Reagans possess an incredible bond with audiences literally everywhere and on every platform. And in its 12th season, with over 250 episodes, BLUE BLOODS not only continues to dominate in the ratings but excels at an exceptionally high creative level. Led by the incomparable Tom Selleck, this amazing cast skillfully brings universal and relatable personal storylines to life week after week, while executive producer Kevin Wade and the skilled writing team craft compelling episodes featuring the show’s trademark mix of family dynamics and police work. We look forward to many more Reagan family dinners next season.”
This will be great news for the show’s fans as well as the cast.
What’s coming on Blue Bloods?
One concern over a renewal was the announcement that Season 12 would have its finale on May 6. That means only 20 episodes this season rather than the standard 22.
If the show had not gotten a renewal, the Season 12 finale would have been an unintended series finale. Thankfully, that won’t be the case, and the show continues for another year.
The synopsis for this week’s episode, Tangled Up in Blue, promises to put Jamie and Erin in some hot water.
“When Erin is stalked by a man who was recently released from prison after serving 12 years, she enlists Anthony and Danny to investigate her office’s role in his sentencing. Also, Jamie works to save his badge when he is caught driving under the influence after he is unknowingly given drugs at a party, and Frank navigates multiple family issues as he deals with a troubling medical diagnosis for Henry, as well as Jamie’s DUI.”
With the announcement just made, the show’s cast hasn’t chimed in yet, but there’s little doubt they’ll be as happy to continue making Blue Bloods one of the best shows on TV.
Blue Bloods Season 12 returns with new episodes Friday, April 29 at 10/9c on CBS.
