The first season of The Crown was released on Netflix on November 4, 2016, and the second season came about 13 months later on December 8, 2017. This has left fans wondering whether Netflix will release The Crown Season 3 leading up to Christmas.
As of last week, it has been a year since the second season premiered on the streaming platform. While the hit series has scored an early renewal for the third and fourth season, it will not come out in 2018.
When will Netflix release The Crown Season 3?
Filming for Season 3 of The Crown has been under way since September this year. Production usually takes up to six months; therefore, we will probably get the new season in the 2019 Fall season. As previously reported, the third and fourth season is being filmed together.
Other than cast updates, Netflix has not released any teaser trailers about the upcoming season. A trailer or release date announcement will likely arrive 3-4 months before the new season is set to premiere.
The Crown has a new cast
Production started later than usual because the third season has a new cast. The series creator chose to change the cast rather than use CGI and makeup to age the characters.
Season three will feature Olivia Colman taking over Claire Foy as the Queen, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.

Emerald Fennell will portray Camilla Shand (Parker Bowles) in Season 3 of The Crown and Josh O’Connor will play the Prince of Wales.
The Crown Season 1 and 2 is currently streaming on Netflix.
