The premiere of Arrow’s eighth and final season is a little over a month away and The CW has released a new set of photos from the episode, entitled “Starling City.”
Arrow is the flagship series of the CW’s DC TV universe and the show is pulling out all the stops for its 10-episode final season. That includes seeing the return of a bevy of characters that appeared on the show in key roles in past seasons.
The premiere features the return of the characters Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell), Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson), and Adrian Chase/Prometheus (Josh Segarra), even though all of them passed away on the show in earlier seasons.
The photos provide a first glimpse of the return of Tommy, Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) best friend, and Moira, Oliver’s mother. The characters appear to be sitting in Queen Mansion, which was also destroyed on the show, so fans can look forward to the return of that location in the season’s first episode as well.
In addition to the returning guest stars, the photos showcase the new costumes being sported by Laurel Lance/Black Siren (Katie Cassidy) and John Diggle/Spartan (David Ramsey).
It’s not clear how Tommy Merlyn or Moira Queen will return to Arrow. However, in the seventh season finale, Oliver went with the time-traveling Monitor to help with the multiverse-threatening crisis that’s coming. So there’s been speculation that Oliver would meet up with the two characters in the past.
Tommy’s beard and the presence of the very much alive characters Dinah Drake/Black Canary (Juliana Harkavy) and Rene Ramirez/Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez) in the scene in the photos suggest something else may be going on.
One way or another, the photos indicate that at some point in the premiere episode, the current Team Arrow will suit up and take on the latest bad guy threat together.
Arrow’s final season will air on Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW. The season premieres on October 15.
