National Football League Game Capsules

Sep 7, 2007, 4:18 GMT

Peyton Manning threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Indianapolis Colts over the New Orleans Saints, 41-10, at the RCA Dome in the NFL's season opener. Manning completed 18- of-30 passes and Joseph Addai ran for 118 yards and a touchdown for the defending Super Bowl champion Colts (1-0), who scored 34 straight points to end the game to secure their third straight win in a season opener. Reggie Wayne had seven catches for 115 yards and two scores, and Marvin Harrison added four receptions for 83 yards with a TD for Indianapolis, which trailed 10-7 late in the first half before rallying. Drew Brees was held to only 192 yards passing, completing 28-of-41 passes with two interceptions, for the Saints (0-1), who advanced to the NFC Championship Game last season before falling to the Chicago Bears. Reggie Bush ended with only 47 total yards, 38 rushing, seven receiving and two on punt returns, for New Orleans, which was held without an offensive touchdown for the first time with Brees at quarterback. Defensive back Jason David returned a fumble 55 yards for the Saints, who last went without an offensive touchdown on December 24, 2005. David, though, was also picked on by Manning, as he gave up three touchdowns.

NCAA Football Preview - Iowa State Cyclones

Aug 23, 2007, 17:36 GMT

OFFENSE: Senior Bret Meyer returns to once again handle the signal-calling duties. He has plenty of experience, with 36 career starts and nearly 8,000 passing yards under his belt, but he is also coming off a so-so season in which he completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 2,546 yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His leadership will no doubt be counted on, but Meyer will need to elevate his game a notch or two if the Cyclones are to improve upon last season's 1-7 Big 12 record. It helps that he will once again be throwing to senior wideout Todd Blythe, who has more than 2,300 career receiving yards and an average of 18.7 yards per catch. He still managed to catch 34 passes and eight touchdowns last year despite missing three games. Lining up alongside Blythe will be junior R.J. Sumrall, the cousin of Reggie Wayne and Robert Ferguson, who has 45 career receptions. The backfield is up for grabs however, as first-year coach Gene Chizik was openly disappointed that none of the candidates separated from the pack in spring practice. Junior college transfer J.J. Bass is certainly a candidate after coming off a 1,200- yard season. Should he win the job, he'd be running behind a line that returns only one starter.

Indianapolis Colts 2007 Draft Preview

Apr 2, 2007, 20:15 GMT

The Colts lost five somewhat recognizable players in running back Dominic Rhodes, wide receiver Brandon Stokley, linebacker Cato June, defensive tackle Montae Reagor and cornerback Nick Harper, but June is really the only player that can't be replaced easily. Indy figures to take the best front-seven player available at No. 32, and effectiveness against the run will be a major pre-requisite. With running back Joseph Addai and wideouts Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne firmly entrenched as starters, the Colts can target diamond-in-the-rough types to come in and fill backup roles at those positions. It will not be a shock if Indy uses a middle-round pick on a quarterback to push Jim Sorgi and/or recent acquisition John Navarre in the backup chair behind Peyton Manning.

Super Bowl combatants send honorees to Hawaii

Feb 7, 2007, 17:35 GMT

The Indianapolis Colts will be well-represented in Honolulu on Saturday, when five members of the reigning world champions suit up for the AFC squad in its annual Pro Bowl battle versus the rival NFC. Quarterback Peyton Manning, wide receivers Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, center Jeff Saturday, and tackle Tarik Glenn were all part of the Colts' 27-19 victory over the Bears in Super Bowl XLI last Sunday, and will be seeking another winning effort, albeit under less pressure-packed circumstances.
