Ray Rice scored three touchdowns and ran for 175 yards to lead the 15th-ranked Scarlet Knights over the Navy Midshipmen, 41-24, at Rutgers Stadium. Rice, who scored one of his touchdowns receiving, became Rutgers' all-time leading rusher, surpassing Terrell Willis' previous record of 3,098 with a 19-yard run on the first possession of the game. He ended the contest with 3,273 career yards. Mike Teel continued his strong start to the season, throwing for 266 yards and three touchdowns on 14-of-19 passing for Rutgers (2-0), which used a balanced attack to stay undefeated this season and improve their home win streak to nine games. Kenny Britt added 99 yards and a touchdown receiving and Tiquan Underwood caught six passes for 104 yards for the Scarlet Knights, who have scored 79 points combined in their first two games. Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada finished 5-of-12 passing for 35 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions for the Midshipmen (1-1), who failed to follow-up their season-opening 30-19 win over Temple with another victory. Kaheaku-Enhada did run for 35 yards and a score for Navy, which has dropped three straight to Rutgers.

OFFENSE: With three senior starters back along the offensive line, a Heisman Trophy candidate at tailback and an experienced big game quarterback, the Rutgers offense should be outstanding in 2007. Last season, the team averaged 29.8 ppg and was 15th nationally in rushing offense. It all starts with Ray Rice, who rushed for 1,794 yards and 20 touchdowns on 335 carries as a sophomore. He seems to get better with every carry and runs harder than anyone in the nation. Quarterback Mike Teel wasn't asked to do much last season, and while he was a bit shaky early on, he played well over the final few weeks. Kenny Britt and Tiquan Underwood are two capable targets on the outside.

Mike Teel threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns as 16th-ranked Rutgers toppled Kansas State, 37-10, in the Texas Bowl at Reliant Stadium. Teel finished 16-of-28 passing without an interception while Ray Rice gained 170 yards rushing on 24 carries with a score for the Scarlet Knights (11-2), who won their first bowl game in the program's 137-year existence. Rutgers fell to Arizona State, 34-18, in 1978 and most recently dropped a 45-40 decision to the Sun Devils in the 2005 Insight Bowl. The Knights also posted their second 11-win season in school history, with the first coming in 1976 when they went 11-0. Tim Brown caught both of Teel's TD passes and finished with four catches for 101 yards. Tight end Clark Harris led with seven receptions for 122 yards in the win. Josh Freeman completed just 10 of his 21 passes for 129 yards and two interceptions for the Wildcats (7-6), who have lost three of their last four bowl games. Jordy Nelson hauled in five passes for 81 yards in defeat. Yamon Figurs' 76-yard punt return in the second quarter cut Kansas State's deficit to 14-10, but it was all Rutgers from that point on as the Scarlet Knights scored 23 unanswered points and compiled 479 total yards in the contest, compared to just 162 from the Wildcats.
