Morten Andersen missed a 52-yard field goal in the final minute of regulation, but hit a game-winning 32-yarder with 8:04 left in overtime, as the Atlanta Falcons outgunned the Pittsburgh Steelers, 41-38, at the Georgia Dome. Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was carted off the field after being hit in the head on a helmet-to-helmet hit from defensive end Chauncey Davis in the third quarter and was replaced by Charlie Batch. Michael Vick completed 18-of-30 passes for 232 yards with a career-high four touchdowns and was intercepted twice for the Falcons (4-2), who beat the Steelers for just the second time in the last 11 meetings. Roethlisberger shredded the Falcons' secondary, completing 15-of-20 passes for 235 yards and three TDs in the first half. He racked up 238 yards on 16 completions before leaving the game, as the Steelers (2-4) lost for the fourth time in five games. Batch was 8-of-13 for 195 yards and two touchdowns. Josh Scobee's three second half field goals were all Jacksonville needed as the Jaguars blanked the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers, 9-0, in the lowest scoring Monday Night Football game in history. It was the first time the Steelers (1-1) were shut out since a December 14, 2003, 6-0, whitewashing at the hands of the New York Jets. The game featured the belated 2006 season debut of Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger after a tumultuous offseason for the star signal caller. He was injured seriously in a motorcycle accident in June, then watched Pittsburgh's season-opening 28-17 win over the Miami Dolphins in street clothes on September 7 after undergoing an emergency appendectomy a few days prior to the game. Roethlisberger looked rusty and completed just 17-of-32 passes for 141 yards and two interceptions against a ferocious Jacksonville (2-0) defense. The Jags did not allow the Steelers to rush for a first down in the contest and Roethlisberger never got comfortable in the pocket. Roethlisberger's counterpart, Byron Leftwich, completed 26-of-39 passes for 260 yards and an interception. Fred Taylor rushed for 92 yards on 22 carries and Reggie Williams had 95 yards receiving on eight receptions for the Jaguars.

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Charlie Batch's controversial 87- yard touchdown pass to Heath Miller with 6:11 remaining in the fourth quarter gave the Steelers the lead, and Joey Porter returned a Daunte Culpepper interception 42 yards for a score to preserve the victory, as the defending Super Bowl champions beat the Miami Dolphins, 28-17, in the NFL's season opener. Batch, starting in place of the sidelined Ben Roethlisberger, completed 15-of-25 passes for 209 yards and three scores. The Steelers (1-0), coming off a victory over Seattle in Super Bowl XL, didn't have their star signal-caller available. Roethlisberger, who last season became the youngest starting quarterback in league history to win a Super Bowl, underwent an emergency appendectomy on Sunday. That came after a horrific motorcycle crash in June. Running back Willie Parker, signed to a new four-year contract last week, rushed 29 times for 115 yards for the Steelers. Culpepper connected on 18-of-37 passes for 262 yards for the Dolphins (0-1), who won their final six games of 2005 to finish 9-7, but Thursday were denied their first seven-game winning streak since 1985. Ronnie Brown, who is expected to carry more of the workload in the absence of Ricky Williams, rushed 15 times for 30 yards and two scores for Miami.

Kurt Warner was 9-for-13 for 118 yards and threw two touchdown passes as the Arizona Cardinals opened their new stadium with a 21-13 win over the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Cardinals Stadium features a retractable roof and, for the first time in the United States, a retractable field. The retractable field sits on a 12-ton tray and will be moved outside to absorb sunlight when not in use. Running back Edgerrin James donned a Cardinals uniform for the first time and carried the ball twice for minus-2 yards. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger saw action, although limited, for the first time since his motorcycle accident two months ago and went 3-for-4 for 29 yards.
