OFFENSE: There is no more pressing issue in Norman this fall than who out of three candidates emerges as the new quarterback. Neither junior Joey Halzle, redshirt freshman Sam Bradford, nor freshman Keith Nichol separated himself from the pack in the spring. Halzle is the only one with any experience in the college game, having thrown all of two passes. Bradford was a highly sought after high school quarterback who is ready to suit up after sitting out last year. Nichol is the much-coveted double threat who can run as well as pass. Coach Bob Stoops has solid depth in the backfield, as several backs will be counted on to help fill the void left by standout Adrian Peterson. All of the receivers are back, led by Malcolm Kelly (993 yards, 10 TDs) and Juaquin Iglesias. The offensive line is an extremely strong group with five players who started games last season, though massive transfer Phil Loadhoalt (6-8, 360) has been inserted atop the depth chart at left tackle after consecutive junior college All-American campaigns.

... moreChicago Bears 2007 Draft Preview
Apr 4, 2007, 15:10 GMT
The Bears front seven was pushed around a fair amount in the latter stages of the 2007 season, so Chicago GM Jerry Angelo and head coach Lovie Smith are likely to focus on that area on the first day of the draft. A replacement for disgruntled linebacker Lance Briggs could come in the first round. Safety help should also be a priority for a team that has the oft-injured Mike Brown and Rams and Redskins failure Adam Archuleta on the current depth chart there. Offensively, there has been some lip service paid to allowing special teams ace Adrian Peterson back Cedric Benson at running back following the Thomas Jones trade, but it seems highly likely that Chicago will select a running back on the first day. Depth at wideout and along the offensive line will probably be among the second-day fare.
... moreArizona Cardinals 2007 Draft Preview
Apr 4, 2007, 15:05 GMT
Arizona has long featured one of the weakest lines in the league, and with disappointing-yet-serviceable tackle Leonard Davis now a Cowboy, the Cardinals could be setting their sights on a player like Penn State's Levi Brown to protect Matt Leinart's blind side. Arizona also needs a pass rusher to complement the aging and injury-prone Bertrand Berry, and Clemson's Gaines Adams could be difficult to pass up at No. 5. Some mock drafts have the Cardinals taking Oklahoma's Adrian Peterson if he is available at No. 5, but Arizona still has significant money committed to third-year-man J.J. Arrington and the recently re-signed Marcel Shipp, so one of those two players is more likely to back Edgerrin James this year. Also, at least one linebacker and defensive tackle should come out of head coach Ken Whisenhunt's first draft.
... moreCleveland Browns 2007 Draft Preview
Apr 2, 2007, 20:15 GMT
Like the Dolphins, the Browns are a team with a draft status that will be impacted by what it chooses to do at the quarterback position in the coming weeks. Conventional wisdom suggests that Cleveland will add a veteran QB such as Trent Green prior to the draft, given the fact that head coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Phil Savage can't afford to wait around for a rookie QB to find his footing. If a veteran QB is acquired, the Browns would be foolish not to select Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson with the third overall selection. At least one ready-to-play offensive lineman will also be a major need on a team that allowed 53 sacks last year. Defensively, the Browns will be without cornerback Daylon McCutcheon (released) and safety Brian Russell (free agent, Seahawks) next season, and will target secondary help. The pass rush also needs some help after generating just 28 sacks a year ago.
