The Curse of Oak Island pulled in 3.25million viewers last Tuesday — despite being up against the President’s State of the Union address.

While many shows do not air that night, History’s popular treasure-hunting series went ahead and still managed to come close to its record number of viewers for the season.

A total of 3.248million people tuned in to last week’s The Curse of Oak Island Season 5 Episode 12, official Nielson figures show.

That is not far from the 3.356million record number of viewers for the season which came in the fourth episode.

The History show has averaged more than 3million people per episode this season, but last week’s episode had one of the highest figures. That comes despite it airing at the same time as President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address was being shown on all the major networks.

The Curse of Oak Island also maintained a high 0.8 18-49 rating, which shows the proportion of people generally thought to be most valuable to advertisers.

The highest ever number of viewers for an episode of The Curse of Oak Island was last year’s Season 4 finale, which was watched by 3.79million people.

A total of 45.6 Americans tuned in to the State of the Union address, according to Nielsen — with Fox News beating every other network for the first time ever with 11.7million people watching it on there. Meanwhile, 7.1million watched on NBC, 7 million on CBS, 5.4million on ABC and 3.6million on FOX.

Outside of politics-related shows on cable, last Tuesday saw WWE Smackdown pull in 2.5million viewers on the USA network, while SP Fixer Upper on Home drew in 3.2million.

The Haves and the Have Nots was watched by 2.2million on OWN, he Real Housewives of Beverly Hills by 1.6million on Bravo, NBA Basketball by 1.4million people on TNT, and The Challenge: Vendettas by 916,000 people on MTV.
