On the newest episode of The Conners, a lot of time was spent on Dan (John Goodman) as he deals with the death or Roseanne. He has not come to terms with it yet, forcing him to seclude himself from the family.

Throughout the episode, the family tries to bring Dan out of his shell and to talk about what he is feeling. Becky recommends a group that helped her deal with the death of her husband, Mark. Jackie and Darlene try to set up a poker night with his buddies.

Eventually, Dan makes his way to a group meeting, where he shares how lost he has become. While it doesn’t solve everything for him, it gets him in a place where he can speak with his family and friends.

The Conners recap: Season 1 Episode 4

In another subplot to the November 13 episode, Geena finds out that DJ hasn’t been taking their daughter Mary to church. Mary will only go if her cousins go, leading to DJ working hard to convince Darlene to take Mark and Harris with them.

Most of the Conners make their way to church, but Dan realizes that it isn’t for him. At the end of the episode, he has a good heart-to-heart with Becky, about how they are best at solving their problems by themselves. It’s a sweet moment to close out an important episode of the stories behind these characters.

The Conners airs Tuesday nights at 8/7c on ABC.
