Welcome to 2019, The Young and the Restless fans, where the gauntlet has just been thrown down in the quest to right some wrongs. What a great way to ring in the New Year!

In an impeccably timed move, the sudser tweeted a great pic of two of its legendary stars noting, “We wanted to start off 2019 with an amazing #ThrowbackThursday. ♥️ Genoa City will always remember Katherine Chancellor and #YR will always remember Jeanne Cooper.”

However, a fan then remarked, “Are we supposed to believe in your respect for the ones who made the show after the way @DougDavidsonYR was treated last year?”

The fan also retweeted what esteemed actor Corbin Bernson, Jeanne’s son and beloved Y&R character Father Todd, had to say back about the treatment of Davidson: “I think my mom may be screaming at angels right now in Heaven. Al I know is it’s pissing rain and she’s up there!”

Eric Braeden wasted no time responding, tweeting, “The treatment of DOUGIE DAVIDSON, the OLDEST member of our cast, was and is outrageous!! It’s STUPID!! If you want ratings you don’t get rid of A DEMONSTRABLY popular actor!!.”

Preach! Fans have been waiting for this opening salvo ever since Mal Young, former EP and head writer, left the show late last year. Some called it an early Christmas present as his tenure was marked by what many viewers saw as missteps and botched moves that saw longtime faves like Davidson vaporized, and a raft of newbies brought in.

An easy target has been the Rosales family, headed by Rey (Jordi Vilasuso), who seemingly took over as GCPD chief of police. Suddenly he’s sitting at Paul’s desk, with Paul’s framed picture in the background, a move viewed by fans as tacky and tasteless and had them livid.

What’s next? It will be interesting to see how Y&R showrunners respond, both in words and deeds.

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays during the day on CBS and on PopTV in the evening.
