Cameron Mathison has been a fan-favorite in the soap world since his days on All My Children. Currently, he airs as a co-host on Hallmark’s Home and Family and appears as a correspondent and weekend co-anchor for Entertainment Tonight.

When Mathison joined All My Children in 1998 as Ryan Lavery, he was a welcomed character. His relationships with Greenlee (Rebecca Budig) and Kendall (Alicia Minshew) were some of the best storylines in the later years of the show. Ryan and Greenlee were a super couple that fans enjoyed watching, even if their relationship was on and off more times than most can count.

Throughout the years, Cameron Mathison has stayed in contact with his soap colleagues, especially the ones he worked with on All My Children. Unfortunately, on Home and Family yesterday, Mathison announced some news that no one was expecting. He revealed that he has been diagnosed with kidney cancer and would be undergoing surgery on September 12, prompting him to be taking several weeks off from the Hallmark show.

On Instagram, Cameron Mathison took the time to update fans who may have missed the announcement he made yesterday. He revealed that he is currently battling Renal Cell Carcinoma and he has likely had the tumor growing in his body for over a decade. Thankfully, Mathison’s cancer only affects his kidney at this point and has not spread to any other organs.

It was detected on an MRI and Mathison will undergo surgery on Thursday. His healthy lifestyle is credited with keeping the cancer stationary and not having it spread throughout his body. Mathison asked for prayers, positive thoughts, and anything else anyone was comfortable with as his surgery takes place.

His former co-stars are other actors from the soap community have flooded his post with their kind words. Alicia Minshew commented “I love you. I am calling you ASAP. Sending you all the love and healing in this world. …?❤️” Also on the post was love from Michelle Stafford, Kelly Kruger, and Chrishell Hartley.

It has yet to be announced when Cameron Mathison will be returning to work following surgery later this week.
