Leah Remini: Scientology and The Aftermath sees the actress and former member investigate the church

Leah Remini: Scientology and The Aftermath is a new series premiering tonight that examines the often controversial Church of Scientology.

This first episode sees the actress head to Seattle for a meeting with a former exec, who passes on some fairly shocking information.

The eight-part docuseries promises to reveal abuse and harassment meted out by the organisation and to give voice to its alleged victims.

Is Scientology a misunderstood religion or a dangerous cult?

Remini left the church in 2013 but says she has been repeatedly harangued by them since that time. Indeed whilst filming this series for A&E she claims they hired a PI to follow her.

Remini published a book last year called Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, she’s clearly looking to shine the spotlight on Scientology once again.

Remini says that she knew she had to leave for her family but the church says she was desperate to stay and was booted out.

The church has previously said of the former member that she now associates with various liars, wife beaters and deadbeats.

Going on to say that: “Ms. Remini also continues her obnoxious efforts to harass the leader of the Church of Scientology and his wife.”

The first church was started  in 1953 by science fiction writers L. Ron Hubbard, it now has branches all over the world and has thousands of members.

Catch Leah Remini: Scientology and The Aftermath – Disconnection at 10 PM on A&E.
