Mr. Robot is coming back for a fourth season — but when? The USA Network announced the renewal of the show back in December 2017, and it was originally set to be an eight-episode season.

However, it was later revealed that Season 4 would be the show’s last and that the number of episodes would now stand at 12.

The third season of the show started on October 11, 2017, so fans have been expecting the fourth and final season to air soon on the USA Network. However, the fourth season has been pushed to next year.

The network hasn’t revealed any details about a possible start date, but the final season won’t run until 2019. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the fourth season will air, as there has been little consistency in when the show has aired in the past.

The first season started in June 2015 with the second season starting on July 13, 2016. However, the third season didn’t air until October 11, 2017. All seasons have been between 10 and 12 episodes, running over the course of approximately two months on the network.

It’s possible the fourth season will start airing in the summer of 2019. But it wouldn’t be unexpected if the fourth season didn’t premiere until a year from now, in October 2019.

Little is known about the plot of Mr. Robot Season 4, but it’s expected that Rami Malek and Christian Slater as Elliot Alderson and his dead father/alternate persona respectively will return as the series wouldn’t be the same without them.

The reason for the show ending isn’t really known, but showrunner Sam Esmail revealed that he wanted to create a small cult show with Mr. Robot, and didn’t expect it to become so big. In a statement, he hinted that he was the one who had made the decision to end its run.

He said in a statement:

When I first created the world of Mr. Robot, I thought it would be a niche television series with a small, cult following. Over the past three years, it has become so much more, and I am continually humbled by the show’s recognition and by the amazing cast and crew that work tirelessly to help bring my vision to life. Since Day 1, I’ve been building toward one conclusion — and in breaking the next season of Mr. Robot, I have decided that conclusion is finally here. Everyone on the creative team, including the amazing people at USA and UCP, didn’t want to say goodbye, but we ultimately have too much respect for Elliot’s journey to extend past its inevitable ending. Therefore, Season 4 will serve as the final chapter of the Mr. Robot story. To fans of the show: Thank you for the past three years, and I can’t wait to share this exciting final season with you.

Mr. Robot Season 4 is expected to have a premiere date in 2019.
