Norberto Barba returns to direct episode 9 of Mayans M.C. ‘Serpiente/Chikchan’ which establishes a new world within the Mayans M.C. universe heading into the season 1 finale.
The latest episode begins with Angel and EZ inside their jail cell at the Santo Padre Police Department. Before the Santo Padre charter is made aware of their arrest, Lincoln Potter visits the boys at their cell, prompting EZ to flash back to the night he first saw Lincoln Potter outside the scrap and salvage yard in the episode Gato/Mis.
Potter says the Santo Padre Police department is processing his release papers and provided their conversation goes well they’ll be released. Potter outright tells Angel that his brother Ezekiel is an informant for the DEA.
Potter offers both EZ and Angel a deal. The fact that EZ was an informant will be wiped clean from the record, and both men released if they help Potter with a favor.
The brothers retrieve Coco’s car from the Santo Padre Police Department impound lot. Angel drives EZ to the side of the road where he beats up his brother for lying to him. After beating and berating his brother, he saves him from a rattlesnake.
Angel enters Coco’s vehicle and drives away leaving EZ alone in the dark as Lincoln Potter watches on from a distance.
Ezekiel spends the night walking home when he flashes back to eight years earlier. We see how EZ met Coco for the first time and Angel explains that Coco just got back from Iraq. This explains how EZ got the gun he used to hunt down the suspected killer of his mother and how Angel and Coco helped get the gun that EZ used.
Angel mentions that the killer was a junkie who was looking for cash insinuating that it was a robbery gone wrong even though EZ says there was no cash missing. EZ says the Wildcat sticker belongs to El Centro High School, and the situation doesn’t make any sense in his mind.
In Felipe’s house, Angel is drinking and looking at his little brother’s baseball trophies. Angel tells his father that he found out about the deal. The father and son have an intense moment where Angel expresses his long felt feelings that his father has always chosen his little brother over him.
At the Galindo mansion, the staff is cleaning up the aftermath of the DEA raid on the house. Miguel explains to Devante that once the Department of Justice gains access to his resources that they’ll have total control over him and he is going to work with the rebels.
Devante says if the diocese (Father Rodrigo) comes through, then they can end the Los Olvidados and warns Miguel not to cross the US government, but Emily and Miguel are adamant on working with Adelita.
Emily mentions that when the DEA tore apart of the house, they disrupted his older brother’s medical records. When Miguel goes through the envelope of medical records he finds the records and x-rays of his older deceased brother Cristobal.
Later, in Miguel’s office, Devante walks and just as Miguel is getting off the phone with Nestor saying Father Rodrigo has come through and Adelita is minutes away. Devante says they assure all their buyers that nothing is changed and the FEDS will not be a problem as Emily and Miguel exchange strange looks regarding Devante.
Angel uses the club’s tunnel system to reach Adelita’s campsite to find that the entire camp has been moved. Thinking that she is in danger, Angel thinks he is responsible for not knowing Adelita’s deal with Miguel Galindo.
Adelita arrives at father Rodrigo’s Church. She remarks the church is empty as no parishioners or priests are present. Nestor and his men arrive to take Adelita to Miguel.
In the clubhouse, Angel explains to Coco and Gilly that the rebels have disappeared and he cannot get ahold of Adelita. Bishop remarks that it’s time to head to the San Buho Casino for the meet with Galindo.
In Lawrence Bowen’s office, agent Himmler mentions that he can’t gain access to EZ Reyes’ file. After attempting to log in himself, he assumes that the system is under maintenance, unaware that Potter has taken over EZ’s deal.
Kevin arrives at work to find that his office has been cleared out. After Kevin reconciles with Bowen, he leaves work for the last time.
Himmler and Bowen look at Kevin’s office and mention they were searching his office for signs that Kevin was a whistleblower.
The Mayans M.C. arrive at the San Buho Casino. In a private room Miguel, Devante, and Emily are waiting.
Bishop attempts to send EZ outside but Miguel asks him to stay. Miguel explains his situation with the DOJ and reveals to the Mayans M.C. and Devante that Adelita offered him a deal as well.
Adelita enters the room to which Devante protests but Miguel orders him to be quiet. Miguel reveals that the cartel and Los Olvidados are now partners and the Mayans M.C. will become their trustee.
Emily confronts EZ about informing on her husband and threatens him to which EZ remarks she has settled into her role as cartel wife quite nicely, establishing Emily and EZ’s standing with one another.
Miguel sends Alvarez in a car with Emily as Miguel takes a separate car with Devante. EZ notices a message “RM 237” written on the seat of his motorcycle.
In the car with Devante, Miguel brings up his brother’s medical records, saying that his brother died a slow death from pneumonia.
Revealing that both his mother and Devante lied to him back in episode 2, the cars pull up to an empty lot. Unwilling to continue running his enterprise in the old ways of the cartel as Devante once did with his father, he introduces Devante to Adelita.
Miguel explains to Devante how Adelita’s family was murdered, and the man who was in charge of the execution squad that killed her family was none other than Devante.
To create trust with Adelita, Miguel provides Adelita with a machete and offers up Devante’s life to pay off his family’s debt.
EZ makes his way to room 237 of the casino. Inside, Gilly, Coco, and Angel are getting matching snake tattoos, a warrior symbol binding them together.
In the church, Pablo sets up Father Rodrigo for child pornography before hanging him, staging the event as if Rodrigo committed suicide.
We also see what remains of Devante, as the camera pans over his decapitated head before the scene cuts to Felipe burning all of his photos and documents in a grill, finally putting his past to rest.
EZ receives the same snake tattoo as Angel on his forearm. The Reyes brothers reconcile before Angel pushes EZ to leave the M.C once their favor for Potter is complete. EZ protests, but Angel persists.
The conversation is interrupted from a call by Lincoln Potter who explains what they need to complete by the next day. Potter sends them a text message of Kevin Jimenez’s ID photo with the words ‘bye-bye’ over it. Potter wants them to kill Kevin Jimenez.
The Season 1 finale of Mayans M.C. airs Tuesday, November 6 at 10/9c on FX.
