This year the 4th of July falls smack dab in the middle of the week — which means daytime television scheduling is subject to interruption and change. What will the soap opera landscape look like on America’s most patriotic of days?
ABC will not air a new episode of General Hospital on the 4th of July, instead choosing to run a repeat. The episode features a one-off of Ava Jerome (Maura West) contemplating her life. The episode originally aired January 17, 2018 and takes place as Ava is having facial reconstruction surgery.
CBS will air new episodes of both of their super soaps, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful on Independence Day.
Last year both soaps incorporated the holiday into the storytelling, and likely will do so again. Do you think that Kyle (Michael Mealor) will film another hilariously scandalous poolside Birthday Suit ad for Jabot?
NBC also plans to air a new episode of Days of our Lives on the 4th, although there is no hint as to what characters and plots will be featured.
Historically the show has various Horton’s and Brady’s celebrating the holiday in good old fashioned Salem-style, with the emphasis on traditional family activities.
