Criminal Minds is wrapping up tonight for the holiday season with a throwback episode to a previous case.

In a newly released clip, JJ, played by AJ Cook, tells Prentiss, played by Paget Brewster, that the case they are working on now has an interesting link to an old one.

The case the team is working during tonight’s episode is about a string of murders of prominent businessmen. They are all missing their hearts, as revealed in another clip, below.

This sparks something for JJ, who recalls a previous time when six women were killed in Milwaukee. She explains that the crime scenes look awfully familiar and that the women were missing their hearts. JJ also reveals that they had both worked on the case.

TV Guide reveals that the case JJ is referring to is featured on Season 3, Episode 2. It’s called In Name and Blood. In that particular case, a man used his son to lure women to him. He would then torture them and cut out their hearts.

There aren’t that many additional details yet as to what is happening on the episode. But since it is a fall finale, it’s possible that the son who helped lure the women turned out to be a copycat of his dad’s killings. It’s also possible that it is someone else who is killing the women, intending to capture the attention of the team.

It will be interesting to see how this throwback case will wrap up the fall season of Criminal Minds, which is currently in its 14th season.

Criminal Minds airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on CBS. After tonight’s fall finale, the show returns January 2, 2019.
