Buddy Bell is a familiar face for fans of My Big Fat Fabulous Life. He has been a part of the show since the start, and even though he has dipped in and out, viewers have a lot of affection for him.

Buddy Bell has been in MBFFL star Whitney Thore’s life for years and his connection isn’t only to her, but also to her family. In fact, Whitney’s brother Hunter has spoken about how he thinks the two should date.

Who is Buddy Bell?

Simply put, Buddy Bell is Whitney Thore’s best friend. The two have lived together on and off for years, mostly in a platonic situation. He accepts her for who she is, and she has loved him through several rough patches in his life.

The two previously tried having a relationship, but it didn’t work out. However, this season on My Big Fat Fabulous Life, the two have already shared one kiss and there is another on the way.

Fans freaked out when the trailer was released because Whitney and Buddy have always said they could only be friends.

Is Buddy Bell in a relationship?

Previously on My Big Fat Fabulous Life, Buddy Bell dated Heather Sykes. The two had been together for quite a while, but last season things took a downward turn. Buddy dumped Heather via a text message and broke her heart.

Right now, Buddy Bell keeps mentioning Chelsea Roark on My Big Fat Fabulous Life, with the pair dating for several months. While it is unclear if they are still together in real time, they were dating when the show was taping. Buddy talked about wanting to marry Chelsea, but will that happen?

Buddy’s cocaine addiction

After Buddy Bell broke up with Heather Sykes, it was revealed that he was addicted to cocaine, and he was also heavily drinking on top of that. Buddy worked as a bar-tender and that turned out to be the gateway for him into the world of drugs.

Buddy chose to enter rehab and when My Big Fat Fabulous Life returned a few weeks ago, he was living away from Greensboro while working on his sobriety. Ultimately, he decided to move back home.

There was some concern about Buddy suffering a relapse after Whitney found a bag of cocaine in her house. However, it was apparently left over from when he was staying there prior to going to rehab and, currently, Buddy Bell has 18 months of sobriety under his belt.

My Big Fat Fabulous Life airs Tuesday nights at 8/7c on TLC.
