Amir Arison’s character, Aram Mojtabai, proposed to his co-worker and girlfriend, Samar Navabi, played by Mozhan Marno, during the Season 5 finale last year. The season ended with this positive moment after Elizabeth Keen learned that Raymond Reddington wasn’t her biological father.

In other words, there are two major storylines that will continue in season six. Arison was recently interviewed by Gotham Magazine and here, he opened up about what fans can expect in regards to Aram’s engagement and possible marriage to Samar.

To recap the season finale, Aram waited for Samar to wake up from a coma. When she was in a coma, he proposed to her. When she woke up, she saw the ring and accepted the proposal. However, their happy ending doesn’t appear to be a major focus of Season 6.

“The storyline is really focused on what’s going on with Red and Liz because there is a lot going on. So that’s really our A storyline. But we see that we’re back at work at the task force, and now we’re engaged. So we start off with that and then we bleed into some stuff that’s going on with them, that I never expected, that I really doubt audiences will expect,” Amir explains to Gotham.

It sounds like their relationship will be challenged in some form, despite them getting through several hurdles over the past couple of seasons.

“I found something out a few weeks ago that is unbelievable. Viewers will have a curveball. In terms of weddings and nuptials, they always turn out a little funny,” he reveals, referencing Liz’s wedding to Tom Keen. If you need a refresher, here’s the wedding featured on The Blacklist.

The Blacklist returns to NBC tonight with a two-night season 6 premiere starting Thursday at 10/9c and continues Friday at 9/8c on NBC.
