Tobas Whale (Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III) on Black Lightning used to be a politician, then became leader of The 100 gang after killing Jefferson Pierce’s father Alvin.

His reputation was built on the suggestion that he’d also killed Black Lightning after Pierce retired from his superhero alter ego nine years before the season began.

With The 100 on the rise and Tobias Whale at its helm, Black Lightning is forced to return — leaving Tobias’s reputation on the line. In the clip below, funeral parlor owner Lady Eve questions whether he’s still fit to lead The 100 after his reputation was built on “a lie”.

As she works on a corpse, she gives him an unspoken and chilling message as she says: “Tobias, did you know that in Africa some people think albinos are magical? These people would actually kidnap random albinos, cut them up, grind their bones and sell it as magic dust.”

She then reveals her partners have become “less confident” of his ability to lead, to which he says: “I’ve literally made you millions of dollars, and you’re giving me a hard time over one mistake?

But she replies: “It isn’t one mistake, it’s your reputation — your entire criminal career was built on the belief that you killed Black Lightning nine years ago. Nobody else could — it’s like you lied on your resume.

“Black Lightning’s death was your calling card and now people are beginning to feel that they’ve been deceived — and it’s messing with my bottom line.”

In the comics, supervillain Whale is Black Lightning’s archenemy and he is expected to continue in a central role in the series as well, with Marvin Jones III listed as a cast member for all 13 episodes of Season 1.

Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III bio

As well being an actor, Jones — aka Krondon — is a rapper and part of the group Strong Arm Steady with fellow rappers Mitchy Slick and Phil Da Agony.

They formed back in 2003, releasing their first album in 2007 (Deep Hearted), followed by In Search of Stoney Jackson in 2010 and their most recent offering, Arms & Hammers, in 2011.

Krondon, from Los Angeles, California, later released his debut solo album, Everything’s Nothing, in 2013. He has also worked as a ghost writer for rappers including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Xzibit.

His acting career started when he appeared in an episode of NBC’s legal comedy-drama Harry’s Law in 2011, and now looks to be on the rise after landing his major role in Black Lighting.

Like his character Whale, Krondon is an African American albino. Albinism occurs when there is a complete or partial absense of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes.
