HBO renewed Westworld for a third season in May earlier this year. The second season finale sets ups the theme for the upcoming season and left fans with may burning questions.

Here is the latest with the cast, release date and what the showrunner teases as a radical shift ahead of the Season 3 premiere.

When does Westworld Season 3 start?

Westworld showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have made it clear that they will not compromise the quality of the series with strict scheduling.

Lisa Joy told the Hollywood Reporter that “we don’t know our release date” when quizzed about when fans can expect Season 3 of Westworld.

It took 16 months between the first and second season. Ed Harris, who plays the Man in Black, revealed that Season 3 wouldn’t start production until June of 2019 — which suggests that a 2020 release date is most likely.

Who is returning for Season 3 of Westworld?

Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores Abernathy and Thandie Newton as Maeve have been confirmed. Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright’s Bernard are also returning for the upcoming season.

It is fair to assume that the deceased human characters, such as Elsie, will probably not return while dead hosts like Teddy may be resurrected.

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul is joining Season 3 of Westworld as a series regular. The Emmy-winning actor, best known for playing Jesse Pinkman will play an unspecified role.

What to expect in the third season?

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, co-showrunner Jonathon Nolan teases a “radical shift” in Season 3 explaining that hosts do not have the same limitations as humans, which allows them to create bigger goals for the direction of the plot.
