Wallace Shawn, who plays Dr. Sturgis on Young Sheldon, returns to the show tonight. During tonight’s episode called A Research Study and Czechoslovakian Wedding Pastries, Dr. Sturgis suggests that Sheldon (Iain Armitage) and Missy (Raegan Revord) should participate in a university research study on twins. However, Mary(Zoe Perry) isn’t too happy about it when Sheldon starts to overreact about the test results.

This isn’t the first time Shawn has made an appearance on Young Sheldon as Dr. Sturgis. The acting icon actually appeared back in April for the first time and now he is making a reappearance.

Wallace Shawn is an accomplished actor with a resume listing 192 credits as an actor on IMDB. He was born in 1943 in New York City, New York.

Even though he was born to a journalist, Cecille Lyon, and William Shawn, a long-time renowned editor of The New Yorker, he didn’t choose acting right away. His brother, Allen Shawn, is a composer and Wallace chose to study history at Havard University. He later studied at Magdalen College, Oxford in the UK.

He traveled to India on a scholarship to teach English but traveled back to New York to teach English, Latin and drama. Wallace Shawn soon learned that he had a passion for writing and acting, leaving what was a cushy career to pursue acting on the stage. He would do off-Broadway shows and earn Obie awards for the plays, Our Late Night, and The Fever.

From 1968’s One Life To Live, Wallace appeared in a good handful of movies, including The Hotel New Hampshire, The Bostonians, and his iconic role in The Princess Bride.

He also starred on The Cosby Show for five episodes and was known as the sweet Mr. Wendell Hall on Clueless – both the movie from 1995 and the television show from 1996-1997. Wallace also starred on Murphy Brown, The Lionhearts, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Wallace Shawn voices Rex the Green Dinosaur in Toy Story 2 and played Cyrus Rose on Gossip Girl. The younger audience may recognize him as playing Taotie in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, which was an animated television series that ran from 2011 to 2016. Wallace Shawn will also offer his voice to a new video game called Kingdom Hearts III in 2019.

Young Sheldon airs on Thursdays 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
