Michelle Gomez, who played Missy during the last couple of seasons of Doctor Who, is bringing her gift for villainy to Netflix’s new version of Sabrina The Teenage Witch.
The Doctor Who star will play the role of a demonic entity, which is compelled to try and turn Sabrina to the dark side.
Sabrina The Teenage Witch is a direct spin-off from the popular CW series Riverdale, which is inspired by the famous Archie Comics. Sabrina will be played by Kiernan Shipka who will likely bring us a fresher and more modern take on the character, who was portrayed for years by Melissa Joan Hart.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Gomez’s character of Mary Wardell will start as Sabrina’s favorite teacher, but will gradually undergo a personality change as she is slowly possessed by the devil’s handmaiden Madam Satan.
Once Mary is fully possessed by the earthly advocate of the Dark Lord, her prime goal will be to sway her young student Sabrina into using her magic for evil ends.
In a nutshell, this is a role that Michelle Gomez is ideally suited to play, which is something she has already illustrated with her portrayal of Missy, who was a more twisted version of Mary Poppins.
One thing most would like to see is Gomez in her new role of Mary sharing some evil banter with Sabrina’s cat Salem. Fans will likely sell their souls for that scene.
Also cast in the Sabrina reboot is Midsomer Murders actor Chance Perdomo who will be playing Sabrina’s cousin Ambrose Spellman, who has been forced to live under house arrest with the Spellmans by the Witches Council.
Ambrose is described by the creators of the show as pansexual. He is also a very willing partner in crime for Sabrina. Let’s hope he can steer clear of Madam Satan.
Sabrina The Teenage Witch is expected to premiere on Netflix in late 2018.
