Ryan Hurst is joining The Walking Dead as Beta, an important character who could have a huge impact on the show’s storyline.

Beta is going to have an important role as a member of The Whisperers. The leader of the Whisperers is a woman named Alpha, played by Samantha Morton. Thus viewers should expect quite a few scenes involving both Samantha Morton and Ryan Hurst in the near future.

Who is Ryan Hurst on The Walking Dead?

Hurst played Gerry Bertier in the classic movie Remember the Titans. He was one of the main characters of the film, who was involved in a car accident right before the championship game.

Most recently, Ryan Hurst was seen on Sons of Anarchy. For a number of years, Hurst played the role of Harry Winston, better known as Opie. After that, he worked on Bates Motel and on Outsiders as important supporting characters. Now, Hurst comes to The Walking Dead in a really interesting character from the comic books.

Who is Beta on The Walking Dead?

Beta is a known antagonist from The Walking Dead lore. He is second in command for the Whisperers, working for Alpha in the comic books. His role on the show is going to be interesting to watch, not just because of how Hurst decides to portray him, but how he deals with other characters on the show.

Beta is brutal in his methods, ultra-protective of leader Alpha, and an extremely dangerous adversary for anyone not already a member of the Whisperers. Some viewers might even find Beta to be a worse adversary than Negan ever was on the show.

Alpha and Beta will appear during Season 9 of The Walking Dead and will become an important part of the show following the departures of Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) and Lauren Cohen (Maggie Greene).

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9/8c on AMC.
