Amara La Negra gets advice from Juju on Love & Hip Hop: Miami

Amara La Negra seeks out her friend Juju for advice on Love & Hip Hop: Miami tonight — as the pair discuss colorism and embracing their Afro-Latina identity.

The conversation comes as Amara continues to deal with the aftermath of comments made by music producer Young Hollywood about her afro, where he told her she should straighten it so that she looked more “up to par” with other stars like Beyonce.

On tonight’s Love & Hip Hop: Miami, Amara meets up with fellow Afro-Latina Juju for advice on what her next step should be, and Love & Hip Hop star Juju is adamant that she must not let anyone pressure her into changing who she is.

She tells producers: “My Afro-Latina identity is such a huge part of who I am and I know Amara is the same way. I don’t ever want this industry to beat that out of her or any other young woman.

“I want her to be proud and to embrace her identity, with whatever makes her comfortable and makes her feel beautiful.”

Amara is currently attempting to make a crossover into the American music industry, and she reveals to Amara how Young Hollywood said things like she was “too black to be Latina” and that her hair was “nappy”.

But she tells producers: “My issue has never been about changing my hair — it’s never been about the hair. It’s about someone telling me that I have to change. How I choose to present myself and represent my culture isn’t for anyone to dictate.”

Love & Hip Hop: Miami airs Mondays at 9/8c on VH1.
