The late rapper Nipsey Hussle (Ermias Asghedom) just received three nominations for the 2020 Grammy Awards. The nominations were announced last night and Hussle was nominated for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for his song Racks in the Middle

The song was released in February 2019 through All Money In and Atlantic Records. It features Roddy Ricch and producer Hit-Boy. This was the rapper’s last single that he released before he was killed.

Hussle died at the age of 33 after he was fatally shot outside his store, Marathon Clothing, in the Hyde Park neighborhood of L.A. last March.

Hussle also received a nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance for Higher, which he did in collaboration with DJ Khaled and John Legend. Hussle filmed the music video for Higher with Khaled and Legend just before he was killed and the music video was released in May.

This is not the first time that Hussle has been nominated for a Grammy. He was previously nominated for Best Rap Album for his studio album Victory Lap.

Hussle was born in August 1985 in the Crenshaw neighborhood of South L.A. to Angelique Smith and Eritrean immigrant Dawit Asghedom. He has a brother named Samiel and a sister named Samantha.

He was part of the West Coast hip hop scene in the 2000s. Hussle was signed to Cinematic Music Group and Epic Records. His first mixtape, Slauson Boy Volume 1, was released in 2005. Other mixtapes he released include Bullets Ain’t Got No Name, The Marathon, The Marathon Continues, and Crenshaw.

Nipsey Hussle released his debut studio album, Victory Lap, in 2018. He launched his Marathon Clothing store in 2017.

Hussle was shot and killed on March 31, 2019, by Eric Holder, 29. Hussle and Holder previously knew each other and the shooting was believed to have been due to a personal issue.
