LHHATL Jamaican singer Spice debuted a lighter skin complexion on Instagram yesterday leaving many fans puzzled. Some claim it looks like the Love and Hip Hop Atlanta star had bleached her skin.

The Jamaican dancehall artist deleted all her Instagram photos initially leaving only one picture showing her new complexion, along with a caption reading: “Nothing wrong with a fresh start.”

In a separate interview Spice, wearing a latex outfit, claimed that she was “giving the fans what they want” with her new complexion. The singer is releasing a new mixtape with a song titled Black Hypocrisy, which left some fans wondering whether it is a publicity stunt.

It is unclear from the photograph whether Spice is wearing lighter makeup or the Love and Hip Hop star has been bleaching her skin.

It appears that the dancehall artist may be shooting a music video for her new mixtape with the lighter complexion.

Some fans have commented that the stunt may be an attempt to discuss colorism and self-hate in the Black community.

Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel famously bleached his skin using cake soap and Lisa Hyper has also promoted skin bleaching. Hyper even released several songs where she boasted about her skin bleaching, with lyrics such as: “Mi proud ah mi bleaching… Mi nah hide, rub on my Doctor Clear.”

However, other artists like Movado have come out against the practice and instead have been promoting dark skin as beautiful.
