Alex Metric has long been known for his work ethic when it comes to his releases. Alex Drury, the man behind the moniker, is a London-based producer and is known for his underground sound, and nu school breaks. He’s remixed a variety of artists, from Madeon to Gorillaz. It’s no wonder that Metric has been able to perform all over the world, and with a variety of big-name acts.

After a dozen of his own releases Metric has just dropped a new EP and is now touring in support of Zedd for the True Colors Tour. The tour has crisscrossed back and forth in the US over a period of six weeks. Support also includes Dillon Francis, What So Not, A-Trak, and Madeon. Luckily, we were able to make the Philadelphia stop of the tour and were blown away by his ability to maintain an underground sound that still remains compelling and relevant, even to a college crowd.

The venue was a huge, 10,000 capacity arena, with standing room and arena seating. While not filled out during his early set, Metric was able to pull a crowd and garner attention. Metric played a 45 minute set of pure fire starting at the opening of the doors. His mixing was unmatched as he seamlessly transitioned between the likes of Jacques Lu Cont and Cassian. While somewhat advanced in his tastes for the rowdy college crowd of Temple, there were many points that he was able to conjure up some huge reactions. His visuals also played a role in garnering attention, as they were minimal yet enticing.

Also present were a variety of new sounds apparent on his newest release, Ammunition Pt. 4 which made its debut through OWSLA and Big Beat Records. Decidedly the best of the night being the playing of“Drum Machine (ft. The New Sins),” Metric was quick to drop his new tracks to great reception. With collabs with The Knocks, and AMTRAC, Metric is poised and ready to continue up the ranks.

With half of the tour dates left and the continued attention from his new release, Drury is taking the stage by storm. It was clear during the recent stop in Philadelphia, that Alex Metric can pull his wait in a room full of heavyweights while still remaining true to his underground sound. Be sure to check him out on his remaining tour dates, and grab copy of his record, out now.
