The Many Saints of Newark release date: When will Soprano prequel come out?

The son of the late James Gandolfini, Michael Gandolfini will portray the younger version of the iconic New Jersey mobster iconic Tony Soprano in the upcoming movie The Many Saints of Newark. 

The Many Saints of Newark is the prequel to The Sopranos, which ended in 2007. The series is regarded as one of the greatest of all time, winning 21 Primetime Emmy Awards, and five Golden Globe Awards. during its six-season run. 

Does The Many Saints of Newark have a release date? 

David Chase, the creator and showrunner of The Sopranos, is writing the movie.

The Many Saints of Newark doesn’t have an official release date yet. The movie has also not started filming production; therefore, it will be unlikely to get a 2019 release date. 

The script for the movie was purchased in May 2018 and the plot will follow the 1967 Newark riots, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people.

The Many Saints of Newark will explore the relationship between the Italians and African Americans during the race riots. 

The young Tony Soprano: Michael Gandolfini 

The 19-year-old Michael Gandolfini bears an uncanny resemblance to his late father, who died of a heart attack at age 51 in 2013.

In a statement published in The Guardian, Michael Gandolfini said, “it’s a profound honor to continue my dad’s legacy while stepping into the shoes of a young Tony Soprano.” 

James Gandolfini received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Tony Soprano winning three Emmy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and one Golden Globe Award. 

Michael Gandolfini is an experienced actor and currently appears in David Simon’s HBO series The Deuce. 

In addition to Michael Gandolfini, the cast of The Many Saints of Newark will include Vera Farmiga, Jon Bernthal, Billy Magnussen and Corey Stoll.
