Today, Lionsgate released the new movie trailer for Keanu Reeves’ John Wick: Chapter 3, Parabellum that features three new characters in the form of Halle Berry, Anjelica Huston and Asia Kate Dillon.
The actresses join the star-studded cast that includes Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane and Lance Reddick. But the trailer doesn’t give a lot of clues on who these women are or what role they will play in the story.
Parabellum continues the story of super-assassin John Wick who now has a $14 million price tag on his head and bunch of bounty hunters hot on his heels.
“After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is incommunicado, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn,” says a Lionsgate press release.
Halle Berry is being introduced as “Sofia” who clearly has some history with Wick and appears less than thrilled to see him again. Anjelica Huston has been cast as “The Director” and Asia Kate Dillon plays “The Adjudicator” of the High Table.
The three women are joined by Mark Dacascos playing the assassin “Zero,” and Jason Mantzoukas at the “Tick Tock Man.” If that wasn’t enough, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman also serve as formidable professional killers that Wick has to face off against, as well as martial arts star Tiger Hu Chen from Man of Tai Chi.
“We’re thrilled to bring audiences the third installment of our hit John Wick franchise with an exciting cast and world-class creative team,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chairman Joe Drake. “This is our latest expansion of the John Wick universe, which already spans film, television, gaming and location-based entertainment.”
Perhaps no one is happier to see the release of the trailer than Reeves who could use a distraction from the poor reception of his current movie Replicas which Thrillist call is his “biggest box-office flop of his career.” It currently has a 9% “rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Directed by Chad Stahelski, John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum lands in theaters on May 17, 2019.
