While Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is still basking in its many wins for best animated movie of 2018, the movie introduces the next chapter in live-action Spider-Man-verse.
Coming to theaters on Independence Day weekend, Tom Holland suits up for the fifth time in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Jake Gyllenhaal joins him in a whole new role.
In today’s teaser trailer for the Marvel movie, Peter Parker join his friends Ned and M.J. on a European vacation, to which his Aunt May tells him to be sure to “pack your suit,” something that Peter is hesitant to do since he just wants to go on vacation as a normal kid. But this proves to be no normal trip.
Peter meets Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) for the first time, who not only asks for Peter’s help in uncovering the mystery of several elemental creature attacks, but also to man up and take his role as a superhero seriously.
Then, just as the trailer comes to an end, we’re introduced to Jake Gyllenhaal’s new character, Mysterio. “Who is that?” asks one of Peter’s friends while watching a news report. “He’s like Iron-Man and Thor all rolled into one,” says another.
The mystery of who Mysterio is and what he’s doing in this movie remains unsolved for now, but hardcore comic book fans will know all about him.
Joining Holland and Gyllenhaal in this star-studded movie is Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, J.B. Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr, and Marisa Tomei. The movie is directed by Jon Watts, who also directed Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in theaters on July 5, 2019.
