It has been about three months since Selena Gomez voluntarily dropped out of the social media world, leaving her 144 million Instagram followers wondering when she will come back to her social media platform of preference.

While some people theorized that Selena left social media behind because she was having trouble seeing her former beau, Justin Bieber, living happily ever after with his new wife Hailey Baldwin, there have also been lots of other things going on in her life

Selena needed a break

It has been a rough year for Selena — even without all the Bieber related rumors. She’s been struggling with lupus, and she even had a kidney transplant to help better deal with her autoimmune disease. The organ was donated by her friend Francia Raisa.

Now a source close to the star has told Hollywood Life that she decided to take her social media break to “work on herself” after the various things she has had to face this year, including Bieber’s new relationship.

The source said: “She had a tough year health wise, and everything that happened so quickly between Justin and Hailey made life even more challenging for Selena. She was tired of people asking her about how she was coping, so she quietly stepped away from the spotlight to work on herself.”

While there is no word on when she may be headed back to social media, fans will be glad to hear she is taking time out to look after herself. The source added: “She has been taking better care of herself and is in a much better place with her heart, health and is feeling stronger emotionally and mentally.”

Selena revealed the news she would be taking a break from social media back in September. She wrote alongside a beaming selfie of herself: “Taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given.

“Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember — negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.”
