Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from the royal family is largely called “Megxit,” a play on words from the famous Brexit event, though some believe that is an unfair title to Meghan Markle.

Meghan is often seen as a dramatic actress looking for publicity, but author Tina Brown believes that a lot of the blame and insults that are hurled at Meghan are unjustified.

Brown believes that without Meghan, Harry would never have been able to leave the royal family and may have never gotten the chance to pursue the life he wanted.

Meghan Markle pushed Prince Harry to leave royal family

It seems obvious to onlookers that Meghan wanted out of the royal family and away from the royal lifestyle, but she isn’t the only one who wanted to leave.

Harry wanted to leave the lifestyle just as much, if not more, but he wasn’t sure how to do it himself.

Brown said, “He wanted out, and she enabled him to do what he wanted. She was strong enough to say, ‘You know what? You want out. I can make it happen.’”

And it’s highly possible that Harry truly needed Meghan to make that happen. Although he didn’t want any part of the lifestyle, he had never done anything for himself in his entire life. Meghan is considered a self-made woman with access to networks like Netflix, and she had a sense of the world that Harry, at least at the time, did not.

Meghan’s connections were necessary for Harry to kickstart being a “global humanitarian superstar,” and it was necessary to get out of Norfolk for him to do so.

However, Harry had a long history of disliking the royal life even before meeting Meghan.

Prince Harry hated royal life

After Princess Diana passed in 1997, Harry struggled in school, and as time passed, he began getting into physical fights regularly.

He enrolled in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2005, which many agree stopped him “from going off the rails.” However, he still had a short temper and didn’t like his royal duties even after leaving the Army.

Harry’s relationships with his family were even more strained then than they are now, and he took up boxing due to frequently wanting to punch someone. Many times, he didn’t speak with his father face to face but through secretaries as Harry felt outcasted by his father, brother, and Camilla.

Harry began dating model Cressida Bonas in 2012, but Cressida became tired of his temper and didn’t want to pursue royal life with him, though she did push him to seek help through therapy.

After they broke up, he thanked Cressida for her help and was sure he would be “single for the rest of his life” before meeting Meghan in 2016.
