The TV nominees for the 2023 Critics Choice Awards were announced on December 6, 2022, ahead of the 28th Critics Choice Awards gala. Abbott Elementary and Better Call Saul received the most nominations of any TV show.
Abbott Elementary came away with a total of six Critics Choice Awards nominations, while Better Call Saul received a total of five. The winners will be announced at the Critics Choice Awards gala on January 15, 2023.
Abbott Elementary, a mockumentary, received a nomination for Best Comedy Series. Additionally, its lead star Quinta Brunson was the show’s sole cast member to receive the Best Actress in a Comedy Series nomination.
Meanwhile, Abbott Elementary stars, Chris Perfetti and Tyler James Williams, each received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. The show’s female stars, Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph, also both earned nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
Better Call Saul nabbed a nomination for the Best Drama series. Its lead star, Bob Odenkirk, received a nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series.
Giancarlo Esposito received the show’s sole nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. However, Better Call Saul’s Carol Burnett and Rhea Seehorn both received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Critics Choice Awards TV 2023 nominee runner-ups
While Abbott Elementary and Better Call Saul led the nominations, several other shows put up a strong showing, too. Reservation Dogs, Gaslit, and The Good Fight followed closely on the heels of the leaders with four nominations each.
Reservation Dogs will compete with Abbott Elementary for Best Comedy Series, and its star, Devery Jacobs, will compete with Brunson for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. Reservation Dogs’ Paulina Alexis and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai also received nominations for Best Support Actress and Best Actor in a Comedy Series, respectively.
Meanwhile, The Good Fight will compete with Better Call Saul for Best Drama Series. It also nabbed Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series nominations.
Gaslit offered up the best showing for a Limited Series, receiving four nominations in the Limited Series categories.
House of the Dragon, one of the most popular shows on HBO, also put up a strong showing with a total of three nominations. Meanwhile, HBO’s Euphoria, Disney+’s Andor, and Apple TV+’s Bad Sisters and Severance each received two nominations.
The Critics Choice Awards nominations also gave a nod to the late Ray Liotta and Leslie Jordan, who both received posthumous nominations.
