This week’s episode of The Exorcist on FOX finds the Rance family in the middle of a firestorm of publicity after the media learns about Casey Rance’s possession.

As Casey’s story gets more attention, Father Tomas finds himself unexpectedly in the spotlight.

Father Bennett goes to a papal planning gala at Maria Walters’ mansion, where people in high society meet to discuss the presence of angels in everyday life. Marcus’ quest leads him into the terrifying underbelly of the city.

With the next episode of The Exorcist airing tonight, we take a closer look at the character of Maria Walters and the actress who plays her, Kirsten Fitzgerald.

Not a lot has been revealed about Maria Walters, but she appears to be a part of an organisation that is trying to improve the city of Chicago.

She seems to understand the work of Father Tomas and to be on his side. Maria’s role will become clearer as the series progresses, but for now she remains a slightly sinister character.

You may not have seen much of Kirsten Fitzgerald, the actress who player Maria, on your TV. This is because, although she has been in Sirens, Chicago Fire, ER, and Underemployed, Kirsten is more usually found treading the boards in the theatre.

She is the Artistic Director of A Red Orchid Theatre in Chicago and has performed in many shows, including Abigail’s Party and The Seahorse. These performances have brought her Jeff nominations and awards.

Kirsten was in the world premiere of Appropriate, staged at Victory Gardens, which led to a nomination for a 2014 Joseph Jefferson Equity Award for Principal Actress in a Play.

Recent stage appearances include the world premiere of Tracy Letts’ Mary Page Marlow at Steppenwolf Theatre and the world premiere of Pilgrim’s Progress by Brett Neveu at A Red Orchid Theatre.

Other Chicago credits include The Elephant Man, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Romeo and Juliet.

Kirsten also teaches acting at DePaul University and Columbia College.

The Exorcist airs on Fridays at 9:01-10:00 PM ET/PT on FOX.
