After Grey’s Anatomy aired last night, the term “McWidow” was breakout trending on Twitter with everyone talking about Meredith and the new man that Cristina sent to Grey Sloan.

McWidow is none other than a new doctor named Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood).

Who is McWidow on Grey’s Anatomy?

Yep, Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) is always looking at hooking up her close friend — even when she is across the world, living in Switzerland.

See, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) has been fighting to get her job back after being fired and having to go to court to get her medical license back. She was back for one day when Cristina sent her a message.

Cristina sent what she labeled “McWidow” to Grey Sloan, and while Meredith thought at first it was an item her friend sent, it was actually a person.

Dr. Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood) arrived — an Irish surgeon that will be the new head of pediatric surgery at the hospital. It seems that Cristina, even from Switzerland, is playing the wing-man for her buddy in Seattle.

This could also be a huge moment for Meredith, as showrunner Krista Vernoff said that a new time frame for Grey’s Anatomy will allow the show to be “sexier” since they can do more at the 9 p.m. timeslot it will slide into when it returns on Jan. 23, 2020.

Plus, with Meredith and DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) breaking up, to fan’s delight, it is time for someone new.

As with the best TV romances, this one started out rocky.

Dr. Hayes showed up and was mad that they started the rounds without him, even though they knew little to nothing about him. Then, he showed little faith in Meredith since she was recently fired. She, however, put him in his place.

However, things looked up.

Why is he called McWidow? For one thing, it is a perfect follow-up to the beloved McDreamy, McSteamy, and McVet, but there was a better reason.

Meredith was not happy when Hayes revealed a possible cancer diagnosis to the family of a sick child. Meredith wanted him to wait but he refused. The child did not have cancer, and she let him know he worried the child’s family for no reason.

That is when McWidow explained that his wife’s doctors did not give him all the information he needed before she died and he swore that he would never do that to any of his patients. He will give all the information he has, regardless.

Grey’s Anatomy returns on Jan. 23, 2020, at 9/8c on ABC.
