Marvel fans have dubbed March 10 as Bucky Day in honor of the character Bucky Barnes. As confirmed by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bucky was born on March 10.

The problem with Bucky’s birth year

In a post-credit scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a memorial for Bucky Barnes was displayed at the Smithsonian Institute. On the memorial, it states two birth years for Bucky Barnes on different parts of the plaque. The top section reads 1916 and the bottom, 1917.

This was most notable last year while filming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier when the character’s birthday was celebrated on-set. Bucky Barnes actor Sebastian Stan was brought a cake with a large “107” candle.

At the time, fans were confused by the candle and the established age. Many noted that with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier taking place in 2023, the age would indicate Bucky’s birth year as 1916.

However, a birth year has yet to be confirmed and while some are hoping for clarification in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, others are just pleased with the character’s birth month and date.

How is everybody celebrating Bucky Day?

Sebastian Stan made an Instagram post to commemorate the occasion. He shared some behind-the-scenes images and videos from presumably, the set of Captain America: Civil War — as the 2016 movie was hashtagged towards the end of the post’s caption.

Stan wrote, “Happy Birthday old guy! We [have] been through some interesting fights. And hairstyles.”

On Twitter, “Bucky” is trending as Marvel fans celebrate the occasion. Many fans are excitingly sharing their favorite images and scenes centered around the character and actor, and some have changed their usernames to include “Bucky Day!”

A Scottish fan shared an image of a billboard for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and wrote, “It’s Bucky Barnes’ birthday and I spy #TheFalconAndTheWinterSoldier poster!”

Self-described “Bucky Barnes lovebot” shared their favorite pictures of the characters with the caption, “Happy Birthday angel. My literal source of serotonin. I love you so much. Happy Birthday Bucky Barnes.”

Another fan reflected on the character’s arc throughout the movies. They wrote, “Bucky deserves all the love! He endured so much pain, was tortured & used as a weapon… His character arc was so sad but he had the most beautiful transformation.”

Even San Diego news reporter Phillip Molnar honored the holiday. He shared pictures of his favorite Bucky-related comic books with the caption, “I heard it is Bucky Day!! Shout out to my favorite Marvel character.”

Everybody seems to be having an eventful Bucky Day filled with camaraderie and fun memories. It’s the perfect way to begin the countdown to the next Marvel Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres on March 19 for streaming on Disney+.
