Could this finally be the year? The treasure hunt featured on hit History show The Curse of Oak Island was given a massive $3million cash boost for Season 6 — more than DOUBLE the figure from last year.

The Nova Scotia Film and Television Production Incentive Fund (NSFPIF) committed $3.97million Canadian dollars (US$3million) to helping create the program, compared to $1.9million Canadian dollars (US$1.5million) for Season 5.

The figure is the biggest amount ever devoted to the show by Nova Scotia Business Inc, which runs the NSFPIF, and was by far the biggest amount set aside for any TV or movie production in the region this year.

The Curse of Oak Island is a huge tourist draw for Nova Scotia, bringing in large numbers of visitors who want to get close to the mysterious island and the treasures it’s rumored to hold.

The show, centered around brothers Rick and Marty Lagina and their team, also helps the local economy in other ways, for example through the hire of local people and companies to help with the digging, drilling and excavation projects that take place on the island every year.

The highly-anticipated new season is just days away with the premiere airing at 9/8c on Tuesday, November 13.

It is set to be the biggest ever, with 30-hours of footage being produced for fans — almost twice as much as in any previous season.

Trailers and episode descriptions, as well as a short sneak peek which aired on the History channel this week, have hinted at the scale of huge works that have taken place on the island this year.

Discoveries which the team are believed to have made include a mysterious underground chamber and their first ever gold on the island.

The Curse of Oak Island Season 6 premieres on Tuesday, November 13, at 9/8c on History.
