Black Summer was a huge hit when Season 1 arrived way back in 2019.

The series was a dark spinoff of the popular Z Nation. While Z Nation was a darkly comedic zombie tale, Black Summer took it all the way to horror.

The first season saw a mother separated from her child, and her desperate attempts to get her back.

Netflix greenlit Black Summer Season 2, but it took a long time to hit the streaming service, due mostly to the coronavirus pandemic shutting down production.

However, Black Summer Season 2 finally hit on June 17, 2021, and now fans want to know if there will be a third season after binging the new episodes.

Here is everything we know so far about Black Summer Season 3.

This article provides everything that is known about Black Summer Season 3 and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors, and analysis. Meanwhile, let’s dig down into what is known so far.

Is there going to be a Season 3 of Black Summer?

Netflix does not announce renewals until at least a month after the season airs to account for both the first week numbers and the first 28 days viewing totals.

Release date latest: When does Black Summer Season 3 come out?

When Netflix announces whether it will renew Black Summer for Season 3, we will update this article with what you need to know.

Black Summer Season 3 cast updates

The cast from Black Summer keeps shrinking.

The first season saw four main cast members in Jaime King as Rose, Justin Chu Cary as Julius, Christine Lee as Sun, and Kelsey Flower as Lance.

Lance is only in the first episode of Season 2 and most likely is gone for good. Julius died at the end of Season 2.

That means there are only three main cast members left for Black Summer Season 3 — King’s Rose, Lee’s Sun, and young Zoe Marlett, who is Rose’s daughter Anna.

However, there is no telling if even Rose and Anna will be back for Season 3, with their ending of Season 2 being ambiguous at best.

That leaves Christine Lee’s Sun as the only person that could return — although her story could have ended, and the third season could pick up with those left behind.

With that said, don’t expect Rose and Anna to be gone for good. There is also a chance Bobby Naderi could return as Ray.

Black Summer Season 3 spoilers

Black Summer does something that The Walking Dead doesn’t when it comes to zombie horror.

On The Walking Dead, most survivors are able to take out the zombies pretty easily, as the real danger comes in the living threats.

However, in Black Summer, these zombies are as deadly and scary as they come. This isn’t about surviving and gun battles and fights between living forces.

Black Summer is a series about the horror of zombies trying to eat you. This is because this is still early on in the zombie apocalypse and no one knows how to deal with the threat of the undead.

There are also a relentless number of deaths, and anyone could die at anytime, with no rhyme or reason. These are zombies and they don’t pick off people for a good reason. They just kill whoever they can grab.

Season 1 saw people trying to survive in the first week of the zombie apocalypse. Season 2 was all carnage, with the survivors starting to go at each other almost immediately as Winter closed in.

This sees a mysterious plane dropping supplies and the surviving humans starting to kill each other to get these supplies.

Also disintegrating was Rose and Anna, a mother and daughter who should have enjoyed the happy ending of finding each other. However, Anna is shattered, living in this broken world, and Rose is trying to absorb all the pain, but is alienating her daughter by doing so.

The second season ended with Anna, Rose and Sun trying to get to the plane.

Rose falls injured when she shoots a flare gun at a car, blowing it up to slow down Ray, who has grown extremely antagonistic. Rose tells Anna to get to the plane, but her daughter refuses and returns to her mother.

Sun makes it to the plane and finds what she hopes is salvation, as the pilot speaks Korean, the only person Sun has met since the apocalypse who speaks her language.

As the plane takes off, the last person seen is Mance, who helped save Rose from the zombie attacks at the end and somehow fended them off. Was he bitten and infected? We may never know.

However, Black Summer is not a show about salvation. It is about brutal reality, and if Netflix gives viewers a Season 3, expect things to grow darker as the zombie apocalypse rages on.

Netflix has yet to announce when Black Summer Season 3 will premiere.
