Dolly Parton is speaking out on Kenny Rogers’ death, saying, “my heart is broken.” The country singer shared a tribute video to her longtime friend on social media.

News of Kenny’s death has rocked the country music community to its core. The legendary icon was beloved by many in the business and adored by his devoted fans.

There has been an outpouring of love, as well as tributes to Kenny. One by his singing partner, Dolly is making fans tear up even more over the loss.

Dolly is heartbroken

On Saturday, not long after news of Kenny’s death was released, Dolly used Twitter to share a message with fans.

“I know that we all know that Kenny is in a better place than we are today, and I’m pretty sure that he’s going to be talking to God sometime today, and he’s going to be asking him to spread some light on a bunch of this darkness. I loved Kenny with all my heart. My heart’s broken. A big ol’ chunk of it has gone with him today,” Dolly said in part of her video message.

The country legend also let her fans know she didn’t realize how much she loved her friend until he was gone.

“You never know how much you love somebody until they’re gone. I’ve had so many wonderful years and wonderful times with my friend Kenny, but above all, the music and the success I loved him as a wonderful man and a true friend,” she captioned her tribute video to Kenny.

Kenny and Dolly’s legendary friendship

Dolly and Kenny became close friends after they recorded their mega-hit song Islands in the Stream in 1983. The two embarked on a tour together following the success of their tune, cementing their close bond forever.

Kenny’s manager was the one who suggested adding Dolly to the song. It was a life-altering choice. Before Dolly came on board, Kenny didn’t even like the song and was thinking about dumping it from his record.

Over the years, Kenny and Dolly have often referred to each other as soulmates. However, they were never romantically involved. In 2013 during a joint interview with People magazine, Kenny shared they never dated because they didn’t want to ruin the friendship. It was something both Dolly and Kenny took great pride in throughout the years.

Plus, Dolly has been married to Carl Thomas Dean for over 50 years. Kenny also had plenty of other ladies to keep him busy in the romance department.

Kenny Rogers’ death has left Dolly Parton, heartbroken. There is no question the music world lost another great today, but Dolly lost one of her best friends.
