Rey Mysterio returned to the WWE this year to compete at the Royal Rumble and then again when the company went to Saudi Arabia. However, while those were one-night deals, it looks like Mysterio is finally coming back to the WWE full-time.
According to Dirty Sheets (via Wrestling Rumors), Rey Mysterio has signed a new two-year deal to return to the WWE.
The site reveals that Mysterio will make his WWE return by appearing on SmackDown Live. This is huge news since it will put Rey in the brand that specializes in wrestling and it also gives them a huge star to help promote their move to Fox next year.
This announcement comes after the WWE revealed to fans that Rey Mysterio would be the bonus character for WWE 2K19 when it hits stores this year.
That made some believe that it meant that Mysterio would end up in the WWE Hall of Fame since that is how the WWE brought back names like Ultimate Warrior, Golberg, Sting and Kurt Angle.
However, Mysterio has said that his wrestling career is far from over. He has competed in Lucha Underground and was booked to wrestle at All In in Chicago later this year, although that might be out the window with the new contract.
All In, the independent wrestling event booked by Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks takes place on Sept. 1. According to the new reports, Mysterio is expected to join the WWE by Aug. 1 and could appear at SummerSlam later that month.
The new Rey Mysterio WWE contract was reportedly agreed to and signed in San Diego two weeks ago when Monday Night Raw took place there.
