WWE Monday Night Raw opened this week with one of the most heartbreaking moments in WWE history as Roman Reigns announced that due to leukemia, he had to step down as the Universal Champion.
After that, there were major questions of what direction the WWE would take from there. What resulted was the best episode of Raw in months and one where everything changed.
Roman Reigns leaves the WWE
Roman Reigns said this was not a goodbye but he will not be back in the WWE for a long time.
He told the crowd that he had battled leukemia for 11 years and it had returned. This meant that he had to go home and battle the disease once again.
This was a heartbreaking moment and ended when he stood united with his brothers from the Shield, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, one more time.
However, it stripped WWE Monday Night Raw of its biggest champion. What was next?

A new WWE Universal Champion
They announced on Monday Night Raw that the match would now become a match between Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar for the title.
Paul Heyman came out and clearly still affected by Roman Reigns’ speech and then moved on to talk about Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman at WWE Crown Jewel.
Braun Strowman then came out and is once again a face in the WWE. His heel turn never really felt right and he is back on the fan’s good side again. Can he beat Brock Lesnar for the title at Crown Jewel?
That match might get bigger.
After the confrontation with Paul Heyman, Drew McIntyre ran out and hit the Claymore Kick on Braun Strowman.
A new face on Raw
With Roman Reigns gone, Braun Strowman was the obvious choice to make one of the major faces on WWE Monday Night Raw. However, he wasn’t the only one.
After Elias finished his short-lived (one week) feud with Apollo Crews, he came out to sing the crowd. Baron Corbin then came out and talked down to Elias and told him to leave.
Elias was compliant but then returned and smashed his guitar over the back of Corbin in an instant face turn.
The fans have been cheering for Elias for months now and the WWE finally listened and turned him good in what might be the best way possible.
Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre lose WWE tag titles
The main event was set up as Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose teaming to challenge Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre
After that, it was time to see what the WWE planned to do with The Shield. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins then decided they were going to win the tag team titles in honor of Roman Reigns.
With Drew McIntyre attacking Braun Strowman earlier on the show, that made it clear that he would have something to do with the match.
In the middle of the match, Strowman came out and attacked McIntyre after a referee bump.
With the two fighting to the back, Seth Rollins pinned Dolph Ziggler and The Shield became the new tag team champions.
Dean Ambrose turns heel
After that, the biggest surprise happened. When The Shield was celebrating their title win, Dean Ambrose hit Dirty Deeds from out of nowhere.
After that, Dean appeared to have a mental breakdown. He started talking to himself and acted like he was hearing voices, claiming that Rollins was saying something to him.
Ambrose then, as the crowd watched on in shock, destroyed his tag team partner. He finished it off by pulling back the floor mats and driving Rollins’ head into the concrete with another vicious Dirty Deeds.
The fans watched in shock as Dean Ambrose turned heel and left through the crowd.
