Fans were left in shock last night when watching the latest episode of The Goldbergs, as the character of Uncle Marvin, played by Dan Fogler, appeared to have experienced dramatic weight loss.

The reappearance of the character in last night’s Thanksgiving episode caused some people to take to Twitter to express their confusion.

Some folks asked if they’d perhaps missed an episode which might explain the weight loss.

Fogler plays the unreliable brother of Murray Goldberg on the show. The character is known for his get rich quick schemes and he comes to Murray’s home every Thanksgiving. In last night’s episode, Barry and Erica were accidentally stuck with Uncle Marvin in Nashville for the holiday.

Some on Twitter praised Fogler for his weight loss, stating that he looked good.

Other fans wondered how the show would explain the weight loss.

Fogler will be returning as No-Maj Jacob Kowalski in the upcoming third installment of Fantastic Beasts. He has voiced possible reasons as to how the franchise could explain the character’s weight loss. He suggested that perhaps the Queenie character might put a spell on him, causing him to become fitter. Or that Jacob might be experiencing a loss of appetite due to the misfortunes that befell him at the end of the last movie, The Crimes of Grindelwald.

With JK Rowling currently still writing the script, it’s impossible, at this stage, to know if she’ll go with either of his ideas.

Fogler is also currently playing the character of Luke on the Walking Dead, although it might be somewhat easier to explain rapid weight loss in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

Fogler has also appeared on the small screen on NBC’s Hannibal and CBS’ The Good Wife. Movies he has appeared in include Good Luck Chuck, Balls of Fury, and Fanboys. He also did a voice-over for Kung Fu Panda.

The Goldbergs airs Wednesday nights at 8/7c on ABC.
