With all the hype being presented about Disney+, very little is mentioning a new National Geographic series which begins streaming this week.
“When you explore the ordinary, you might just discover the extraordinary!” is a tagline for The World According to Jeff Goldblum — a 12-part series where the famous actor explores everyday objects and pulls the curtain back a bit on the unique backstories.
Produced by National Geographic and Nutopia, each episode of the new show will feature Goldblum interviewing a number of experts on that week’s selected object.
These experts on the series are called Innovators and Makers (people who have been successful at making a particular object into a phenomenon), Passionate Obsessives (people who take their love for a particular object to the extreme) and Subcultures (people with a special connection to the week’s object that won’t become immediately apparent).
Jeff Goldblum does triple duty today, stopping by the sets of ABC’s Good Morning America, Live with Kelly and Ryan, and The View on Tuesday to give a sneak peek about his new show.
Press materials from Disney+ state that during each episode of The World According to Jeff Goldblum, the host will discover The How (the fascinating story behind each item and how it’s made) The Now (the incredible ways the item has become part of our lives), and The Why (the surprising secrets behind the item’s success and what its future holds.)
The very first episode will share Goldblum’s quest behind the multi-billion-dollar industry of sneakers with trips that take the actor to the basketball court, the boardroom, Adidas’ high-tech labs, and even SneakerCon – a real convention dedicated to the shoes. The episode also includes a meeting with Dominic Ciambrone, who calls himself “The Shoe Surgeon.”
On the following week’s episode, Ice Cream, Jeff looks for ingredients in the wild, scoops up some of the stuff at the Las Vegas Rockabilly Festival, meets THE Ben & Jerry, and attends an ice cream social event aboard a US Navy aircraft carrier of all places.
The third week focuses on tattoos and the people who give them, as well as those who get them, spending a good portion of the time at one of the largest tattoo conventions in the world. But Goldblum also learns about a Hawaiian ancient tradition, something called “smart tattoos” and visits with fans at Pittsburgh’s “Jeff Goldblum Day.”
The remaining episodes for the first season of the show cover Denim, BBQ, Gaming, Bikes, RVs, Coffee, Pools, Cosmetics, and Jewelry.
The World According to Jeff Goldblum begins streaming on Disney+ on November 12.
