The murder of intern Chandra Levy is examined in detail in a three-hour special on TLC — which promises to delve into the “sex, lies and scandal” of the case which captivated a nation.
Chandra vanished at the age of 24 on May 1, 2001, while working as an intern in Washington, D.C. at the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Her skeletal remains were found over a year later on May 22, 2002, by a man walking his dog in the city’s Rock Creek Park.
It later emerged that Chandra was having an affair with Congressman Gary Condit (D-California), who was married and initially denied their relationship but was cleared of any involvement in her death.
Tonight’s special features interviews with his former bodyguard, driver and friend Vince Flammini.
The episode also features an exclusive new interview with illegal immigrant Ingmar Guandique — who was initially found guilty of killing Chandra but was later deported back to his native El Salvador after his conviction was overturned and charges were dropped ahead of a retrial.
Chandra’s parents Susan and Robert Levy also speak, along with Joe McCann, who was hired by the family as a private investigator, and journalists who covered the case along with detectives who investigated it.
Chandra Levy: An American Murder Mystery airs tonight at 8/7c on TLC. The episode is also available on Investigation Discovery’s ID GO online platform.
