Roni Dominguez looks amazing on My 600-lb Life Where Are They Now?

Tonight’s My 600-lb Life Where Are They Now? focuses on the Dominguez family who were uprooted from Arizona to move to Texas for their surgery with Dr. Younan Nowzaradan.

Michael Dominguez was facing life weighing over 600 pounds, and his wife Roni was also beyond the realm of normal weight needing gastric surgery as well.

Like so many people on this series, Michael and Roni had very rough childhoods. In the clip below Roni is speaking with her therapist about her weight loss and she says the ghosts of her old food demons still haunt her.

Roni’s weight loss is tied to Michael, her husband as they learn to live differently and healthier

When pressed, Roni says that she lived with her grandparents and remembers going for days without eating and food. She reveals that she would often spend time with friends just so she would not starve.

The therapist acknowledges this hardship and says: “This is how you learned how to survive.”

Roni shares that when she got together with her husband Michael that their food habits were off the charts. She says he was already big so they ate out in restaurants three to four times a day, plus they ate at home.

As fans of the series remember, Michael’s episode revealed a very kind and gentle soul whose childhood emotional problems led him down an unhealthy road of obesity and bad eating habits that made matters worse each year.

As a child, Michael began overeating first as a means of coping with his father’s Draconian disciplinary ways. But then, when his dad was imprisoned, he used food to soften the absence and ease his anxiety about his father being away.

“Growing up, there was a lot of anger in my house because my dad was strict,” Michael said in his initial episode. “And everything had to be a certain way or he’d be mad. He had rules for everything, including food, and I was just afraid of him being mad at me.”

Michael’s dad going to prison put fuel on the fire for Michael as he ate and ate never stopping to realize what he was doing to himself.

Now Roni and he are working through their shared baggage and bad habits through surgery, therapy and supporting each other. Their relationship is a lot better but he “get’s angry,” Roni says in the clip below.

She adds: “I am learning how to talk to him in a better way.”

The therapist says that Roni learning how to correctly use her assertiveness is all part of her weight loss journey and a good thing.

Cautiously optimistic, Roni is trying to relearn how to eat and not use food as an emotional crutch.

“Hopefully I’ll see the benefit on the scale when I go back to see Dr. Now.”

Also tonight, Kirsten must finally become independent to qualify for the gastric bypass surgery she needs and Roni’s husband Michael still struggles to lose weight after losing hundreds of pounds and has anger issues to handle.

My 600-lb Life Where Are They Now airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on TLC.
