Patrick Duffy guest starred on last night’s episode of American Housewife, shocking longtime fans with his long grey ponytail in an episode titled Saving Christmas.

Duffy played Marty, Katie’s father who surprises the Otto family just in time for Christmas. But Katie, played by Katy Mixon, has other plans and does everything in her power to keep her parents separated during his visit.

If you think Patrick Duffy looks familiar, it’s possibly because he is a television icon with a long resume. His first acting job was back in 1974, playing a role simply called Adoptee # 3 in the television movie, The Stranger Who Looks Like Me.

Throughout the years, Duffy has filmed many television shows, most notably Dallas. Here, he played Bobby Ewing on the show, which ran from 1978 to 1991. Right after that show ended, he filmed Step by Step from 1991 to 1998, where he played Frank Lambert.

Stephen Logan was another memorable character from The Bold and the Beautiful from 2006 to 2011, a show he filmed over 153 episodes with.

Duffy returned to his role as Bobby Ewing in the Dallas revival show from 2012 to 2014. Fans also recognize from You Again, Family Guy, Charlie’s Angels, The Love Boat, Knots Landing, Strong Medicine, Our House, Too Good To Be True, Newhart, and much more.

Patrick was married to Carlyn Rosser from 1974 until her death in early 2017. The couple has two children together, Padraic and Conor Duffy.

Duffy himself is the youngest of two children, and he was born in Montana to parents, who ran taverns in the state. The two were killed in 1986 when 2 teenagers decided to raid one of their taverns.

Acting wasn’t his first passion, as he actually wanted to be a professional athlete. It was his involvement in a high school play that put him on the path to Hollywood. Since his success with Dallas and Step by Step, he’s continued to pursue acting on television shows and made-for-tv movies.

When he met his wife, she was a ballet dancer at the First Chamber Dance Company of New York. It was she who introduced him to Buddhism, something he has practiced for three decades. Now that he’s a widow, he spends his time in Los Angeles and southern Oregon, according to IMDB.

American Housewife airs Wednesdays at 8:30/7:30c on ABC.
