Obsession: Dark Desires examines case of Katie Call and her insanely jealous ex Michael Todd Ray

This week Obsession: Dark Desires, examines the case of Katie Call who was stalked and shot by her crazy ex-boyfriend Michael Todd Ray.

In an episode titled Texts, Lies, and Videotape, the show looks at how an obsessive ex-boyfriend went to extreme lengths to keep tabs on his old girlfriend only to not like what he saw.

In 2003 Katie Call broke up with Ray, but he was not a man to take no for an answer. He kept visiting her house and she was forced to change the locks on her hours several times after he’d broken in and put his own locks on!

He also used various voice and motion-activated recording devices to record both video and audio of Call in her home. One video camera was even inside her bedroom television.

Call had previously stalked his ex-wife and he cut a formidable figure at over 6 foot and over 200 lbs. But he had never attacked Call before and although his behaviour was very disturbing he’d never been violent.

Though 2 days before the attack he sent Call an e-mail that read: “Do you know how big a hole a .45 leaves in the head? I’m fixin’ 2 find out.”

On August 7th 2004 Call was confronted by Ray in her home. He was holding a gun and she quickly slammed the door shut and ran. But Ray was quicker and smashed the door down and shot Call in the abdomen.

He then chased her new boyfriend down the hall, forcing him to jump through a window to escape. Ray then feld the scene.

Call was lucky and the bullet passed through her, leaving her with only a collapsed lung to deal with. Her boyfriend broke his arm in the crash through the window, but was otherwise unharmed.

Ray got into a standoff with the police that lasted over 14 hours. Finally cracked and shot himself in the head, though he messed this up as well and survived the self-inflicted wound.

Obsession: Dark Desires airs Mondays at 10:00 PM on Investigation Discovery.
