On the next episode of My 600-lb Life on TLC Wednesday, a couple named Vianey and Allen are featured — but there is scant information out there to fill in the blanks.
The official TV logline states these two are “locked in a co-dependent relationship” and are struggling to keep together in a bid to get down to Houston to meet with weight loss medic and star of the series, Dr. Younan Nowzaradan.
There are several difficult challenges here for people who are likely on disability and of limited means. Moving costs, transportation, and safely getting to the weight loss clinic to be told the following:
After a perfunctory “How y’all doin'” from Dr. Now, he will review the tale of the tape…the initial weigh in. That’s always a shock to these people who ballpark their weight.
Then it’s “excuse time” as Dr. Now asks why hasn’t [fill in the name] tried to lose weight until now? His expression is usually like, what are you waiting for?
Then the imminent death and mortality talk is followed by the “tears portion” of the visit which is followed by the “I’m gonna do this” resolve turning point… as Dr, Now smiles that smile of his. This isn’t his first liar-liar rodeo.
After that, the person will be tested for any medical issues and blood work will reveal if they are healthy enough for the program.
Then the Doc lays on his 1200-calorie a day diet for the person to adopt and ask them to lose 100 pounds so he can approve them for weight loss surgery.
Now, if the person lives out of state that means they have to go back home, be good and stay on the diet, and then get the funds to move back to Houston for the weigh-in that determines if Dr. Now will take them on.
If the person’s health is so precarious (Cillas) that they need immediate intervention, he checks them in at his hospital of choice, St. Josephs.
If that hurdle is passed, they must move to Houston and continue to lose weight for the surgery they desperately want.
This episode on Wednesday is a twofer. Two big people must do this and support each other to get the surgery.
Hopefully, it will not be a repeat of Angie J or Mercedes or a few others from this season who really wound up the doctor and basically fibbed and flubbed for a year wasting their time and all of ours.
Check back to see how Vianey and Allen fare with Dr. Now.
